Grandmaster Miguel Hernandez’s 70th Birthday Celebration
Join us on Saturday, November 7, 2026, as students, teachers, family, and friends gather in Brooklyn to celebrate Grandmaster Miguel Hernandez’s 70th birthday and a lifetime devoted to Ving Tsun. The day includes a Ving Tsun Seminar, an optional open house at NYC Ving Tsun for seminar attendees, and an evening banquet at East Harbor Seafood Palace.

Ving Tsun Seminar
Trinity Lutheran Church, 411 46th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11220. Check-in is 10:00–10:15 AM. Tuition is $120 per person, plus processing fees. Tickets available: 60. Participants must be 18 or older; no school, teacher, or lineage affiliation is required. A lunch break is included. Lunch is not provided; participants should bring lunch or plan to purchase it nearby. Bring basic training gear and a personal water bottle. Chairs and water will be provided. NYC Ving Tsun is not responsible for luggage, equipment, or personal belongings left at any event location.

Open House at the Mo Kwoon
NYC Ving Tsun Kung Fu, 4925 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220. Following the seminar, seminar attendees are welcome to stop by to change, rest, shower, and spend time with the Ving Tsun community before heading to the banquet. This optional open house provides a convenient place to gather between the seminar and banquet, avoiding the need to travel elsewhere. Attendees may arrive and depart at their convenience. A host will be present on-site. No refreshments will be provided. NYC Ving Tsun is not responsible for luggage, equipment, or personal belongings left at any event location.

70th Birthday Banquet
East Harbor Seafood Palace, 714 65th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11220. Guest arrival begins at 6:00 PM, with dinner service beginning around 7:00 PM. Tickets are $150 per person. Seating is assigned; seating requests or group names may be submitted during checkout, but requests are not guaranteed. Spouses, friends, and non-practitioners are welcome. Dinner is served family-style. Dress code is business casual. The evening includes a lion dance performance, private photographer, special slideshow and music, and a special prize drawing.
Celebrating a Lifetime in Ving Tsun
Grandmaster Miguel Hernandez began his Ving Tsun journey in 1977 under the tutelage of Grandmaster Jason Lau. Following Grandmaster Lau’s relocation to Atlanta, Hernandez continued his studies under Grandmaster Moy Yat. For nearly five decades, he has devoted himself to studying, preserving, teaching, and advancing the Ving Tsun system. His 70th birthday offers an opportunity for students, teachers, family, and friends to recognize his lifetime of dedication and celebrate the Ving Tsun community shaped by his work.

As part of Grandmaster Miguel Hernandez’s 70th Birthday Celebration, NYC Ving Tsun is honored to present a special seminar exploring the principles, idioms, and deeper teachings of the Ving Tsun system.

Grandmaster Douglas Lee (Lee Moy Shan)
The Path to the Heart — Ving Tsun Sam Faat
Grandmaster Douglas Lee, Lee Moy Shan, will lead the morning session on The Path to the Heart — Ving Tsun Sam Faat.
Grandmaster Lee holds a significant place in the history of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun family. He was Grandmaster Moy Yat’s first student in the United States, beginning his Ving Tsun study with Moy Yat in New York in 1973. In 1975, he co-authored Kung Fu for Young People: The Ving Tsun System, one of the earliest English-language books devoted to Ving Tsun.
Now retired from regular teaching, Grandmaster Lee devotes much of his time to sharing Sam Faat — the “Method of the Heart.” Drawing from Ving Tsun’s principles, axioms, and traditional idioms, Sam Faat examines how the wisdom contained within the system can extend beyond physical technique and be applied to relationships, conflict, decision-making, and everyday life.
The morning session will explore these Ving Tsun idioms and the deeper principles they express, presenting the system not only as a martial art, but as a method for understanding ourselves, our relationships with others, and the circumstances we encounter.

Sifu Victor Chung
Sifu Chung is a direct disciple of Grandmaster Moy Bah Hugh (Pete Pajil) and a grandstudent of Grandmaster Moy Yat. He has studied and taught Ving Tsun for decades, carrying forward the knowledge and traditions transmitted through this branch of the Moy Yat family.
His afternoon presentation will complement Grandmaster Lee’s morning session and provide participants with an additional perspective on the principles, practice, and transmission of Ving Tsun.
Supporting the Path to the Heart Foundation
A portion of the proceeds from the seminar will be donated to the Path to the Heart Foundation, founded by Grandmaster Douglas Lee to further the Heart Method and its application of Ving Tsun principles to relationships, personal development, and the resolution of conflict.
